She began acting at the age of 13. When she was 13, after attending several courses and carrying out background work on Canadian shows such as Road to Avonlea and Harriet the Spy, she got her first role as a speaker in the Canadian children's horror series Goosebumps and Are you afraid of the Dark?, both series that aired by YTV. Following commercials, she had appearances as a guest star in Mutant X, Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story, Goosebumps, Twice in a Lifetime, Doc, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, Troubled Waters, The Dresden Files, as well as a couple of Disney Channel original films (Mom's got a Date with a Vampire and Alley Cats Strike), at the age of 19, at York University, where she was studying Psychology and English. She got a leading role in Sadie Harrison in the CTV teens' drama Instant Star, which was on air for four seasons. Vandervoort's debut film, The Lookout, was released in the year 2006. It starred Jeff Daniels along with Matthew Goode and Isla Fischer. Vandervoort's career in television began with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Then, she was offered the role as Clark Kent's Kryptonian Cousin "Kara Kent", (the woman who became Supergirl) as part of The CW serial-drama show Smallville. It was her first regular on the show in season seven and appeared in the "Bloodline" episode for season eight. Three years later, in the tenth season and its final episode Smallville in the tenth season, she was able for two more episodes. 4. Following The CW and Smallville, Vandervoort filmed the sequel in the feature film Into the Blue titled Into the Blue 2: The Reef. The Jazzman was her next independent film. It also featured Canadian actor Michael Ironside and Corey Sevier.
