Zoe Saldana was born on June 19, 1978 in Passaic, New Jersey, to Asalia Nazario and Aridio Saldana. Her father was Dominican and her mother Puerto Rican. She was raised in Queens, New York. When she was 10 years older the family were relocated towards the Dominican Republic, where they lived for the next seven years. In the Dominican Republic, Zoe discovered a keen passion for performance dancing and enrolled in the world-class ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy where she studied ballet as well as other forms of dance.
